April 12th, 2012 | admin

So yeah, I know nothing about wine. But I figured my beer palate and knowledge would make doing a few wine reviews interesting, if nothing else. Wine Is Serious Business 58: Grüner Veltliner from Austria – part 1

April 12th, 2012 | admin

We received samples of some Austrian wines, and we were pretty excited to share them with you. Additionally, our friend David Speer from Red Slate Wine Company agreed to do the show with us. He had some good information that we wouldn’t have had, and it was fun to share the wines with him too. Thanks to Constance Chamberlain for hooking us up with such great examples of Austrian wine. I looked up some prices online, and ended up thoroughly impressed. We taste the 2009 Zahel Grüner Veltliner Goldberg ~$20, the 2009 Laurenz und Sophie Singing Grüner Veltliner ~$14, the 2009 Domane Wachau Terrassen Federspiel Grüner Veltliner $16, and the 2009 Fritsch Wagram Schlossberg Grüner Veltliner ~$22. The question of the day is in the video, but learning how to spell the word is part of the question, so you’ll have to watch it to answer! Link to Part 2: www.youtube.com

STRICTLY GRUNER & SHEER DRINKING PLEASURE – that’s what LAURENZ V. is all about. Laurenz Maria Moser V. represents the fifth generation of the famous Austrian Lenz Moser wine family. Today, he is the only winemaker in the world to have dedicated himself exclusively to the indigenous Austrian grape variety GRÜNER VELTLINER – or just „Gruner“. With his SUNNY & SINGING, FRIENDLY, SILVER BULLET and the flagship CHARMING Grüner Veltliners by LAURENZ V. he is conquering the world to help the Grüner Veltliner achieve its deserved status in the pantheon of the worlds top white wine varieties. Gruner Veltliner is best described as: Think of the floral perfume of a German Riesling, the refreshing zip of a Loire Sauvignon Blanc and the lusciousness of a Northern Italian Pinot Grigio, all in great harmony. Enjoy!
